The hills are so quiet in the morning, just what we were hoping for. We stayed at I Caprioli in early July to catch the lavender in bloom in Sale San Giovanni, and had a lovely time. It’s in a beautiful spot, and Ceva is easy to reach by car. We hope to come back soon.

We didn’t get to stay the night. After finding another place nearby, we left late, tired, and relieved to avoid a sleepless night. I called the owner to let him know, feeling a bit awkward, and he accepted our decision. He didn’t come back to see us off, even though he knew our car was awkwardly positioned and we couldn’t maneuver it without moving his. We were practically gone without having stayed at all. The property has plenty going for it, but it needs more professional attention. The many positive reviews make me think we may just have been unlucky. I’m sorry it happened and wish the owner and other travelers well. We travel often and can usually adapt. People make mistakes, and I know that. Still, I think it’s worth describing what happened for anyone considering a stay here. Booking and check-in were smooth, and the owner was courteous, attentive, and helpful. On arrival the country house looked appealing and was nicely furnished. The owner told us bedbugs had got into the room and said he’d taken steps to get rid of them. Once he left, we looked more closely and found bugs all over the room, especially bedbugs, including three in the bed. The room didn’t seem clean, so we called him and asked to change rooms. He came back and showed us another one, which was somehow worse. We were at first willing to stay, but he was the one who suggested we give up the second night. He understood our situation and admitted it was difficult, though it was already 11 p.m. and we were in the middle of nowhere. Then he left again. We tried once more to clear the room, but the number of large insects, particularly bedbugs, was overwhelming. There were also lots of dried insect remains, suggesting this wasn’t a recent problem and pointing to a lack of regular cleaning. Luckily, a couple of phone calls turned up an improvised option at a nearby hotel. It wasn’t the countryside stay we’d wanted, but it beat spending the night awake.

The sunrise view from the window was lovely, and breakfast was set out right in the anteroom, where there was also a kettle. I enjoyed my stay, and the value for money is excellent. Massimo and his wife were impeccably helpful and courteous. The building is recent and very well renovated, as the photos show, and the room was very spacious. The bathroom felt small beside it, though, and the shower stall could be resized to make better use of the space. Getting there is easiest via Ceva. Go up the hill to the left turn for "Località Costabella" in Roascio, then take the road downhill, through the narrow gap between two houses, and continue to the end of the paved road. The B&B is downhill on the right. Access could be improved, especially after dark. A path with traditional solar garden lights would fit the place and its evident care for nature. There’s no TV, which didn’t bother me much since I rarely turn one on in hotels. Internet would be useful, especially for using regular streaming subscriptions on a PC or tablet.

We spent one night there with our dog. The person looking after us was super kind and helpful. It’s a peaceful spot surrounded by nature, and the room was clean, simple, and welcoming, just right for a natural place. Too bad some people can’t appreciate simple things and are always looking for problems to solve when there aren’t any!

It’s very quiet, surrounded by greenery, and handy for visiting the villages around the Langhe. In the evening you can see lots of deer grazing in the meadows nearby. The rooms are roomy and comfortable, with a separate living room and breakfast area that give you plenty of privacy and peace.
