The best meal we had in Italy was at this spectacular restaurant, with the best traditional food. We’d come to Rocca to see where my grandmother was born, and felt so lucky to find it.

Francesca, our host, put us up in La Casetta, a little renovated house within walking distance of everything in Rocca Imperiale. You can drive into the village to drop your suitcases, but the car has to stay parked outside it. The spacious bathroom has a larger shower area and excellent water pressure. Upstairs, the bedroom sits over the living area, and the air conditioning works a treat. A great little place to stay.

The food was just gorgeous and absolutely delicious. This is what we hope for from a meal in Italy, and we loved it. We forgot to take pictures because we tucked right in. The owners are lovely, and the music is great too.

The service was friendly and attentive throughout lunch. We had local appetizers, then handmade pasta and rabbit cacciatore. The pasta was the best we’ve had in Calabria.
