Villa Piccolomini - Relais di Charme

I got home today after two nights here with my dog. Since I know the town, its steep hills, narrow streets, and the property's spot at the top, I asked the manager to collect us by electric caddy from the main parking area at the town entrance. The website advertises this service. The apartment was clean and spacious, but on the top floor. I didn’t care for the decor, though that’s personal taste. When I sat on a chair, it nearly collapsed because it was broken. The bed was a complete fail: the mattress was smaller than the base, leaving wooden boards, screws, and nails exposed. The sheets felt like hospital linen. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom, no dishcloth or placemats in the kitchen. When I mentioned the missing toilet paper in the garden, the manager laughed and said the girl always forgets it. He showed us a room with plenty, so we’d have to go get it ourselves. I’ll leave it at that. The pool area was sadly neglected, with broken loungers and lots of dead potted plants. Breakfast was pretty miserable. No good Tuscan bread or Tuscan olive oil, just toast. There were a few cold cuts, mortadella that looked awful, cherry tomatoes, and little else on the savory side. The rest was packaged brioches, biscuits with jam, moka coffee, milk, and two juices. On our departure morning, I couldn’t find the manager after breakfast, so I called to ask him to help bring my suitcases to the car with the caddy. He said he was away and told me to leave the apartment keys with the breakfast girl. I was left to manage on my own and had to walk up and down the town twice with my luggage. It’s a shame, because the property has a lot of potential.
