Appia Park Hotel

The hotel is well connected by bus and metro to central Rome and the Vatican, and the free parking is useful. Housekeeping was good, and the gentleman at reception was super helpful. The rooms could use some improvement.

The staff and service were lovely, and the people working there were wonderful. The room, though, was dilapidated, to put it kindly, and the breakfast wasn't anything special. Even the bread was very dry. I get the impression the hotel earned its four stars a long time ago. For what we paid, I expected more. I'd put it closer to two or three stars.

I've been back to Appia Park Hotel three or four times a year on business for the past eight years, and I'm returning again in a week. It's close to the Appia Way and many derelict buildings from that period, so there's nearby history all around. The rooms are pleasant, the beds comfortable, and the individual air conditioners work well. Bathrooms are basic, with either a bath and attached shower or a small shower cubicle. There's a nice breakfast room on the ground floor, plus a basement area for coach groups. The foyer has sofas, and there's a good bar that makes good coffee. They always give you a warm welcome. A nice Italian hotel.

The bathroom door in my room was broken, and the furniture was very old and showed plenty of wear. There were lots of mosquitoes even in October. Staff generally didn't speak English, apart from the receptionist. The breakfast was ordinary, maybe close to what you'd get at a three-star hotel. Lunch was okay, but the choices were limited and there was no meat for two days in a row. I was at a conference, and our group's breakfast was set apart on the hotel's bottom floor and was very poor. We felt discriminated against. Don't be fooled by the four stars, they're just part of the hotel's name. It was an average hotel, nothing special.
