Casa Nostra Signora

The room was dirty and unappealing, with a strange smell, and we suspected the sheets hadn't been washed before we arrived. There were bedbugs in the beds and silverfish on the floor. The beds creaked every time you moved, too. Our toilet broke on the first day. They said they'd fix it the next day, but it stayed broken for the next six days. The nuns were very nice, and breakfast was okay. The bread was dry and the toppings had a strange plasticky quality, though nothing was too bad. Dinner was quite nice. This was our experience, while our friends didn't have nearly as many problems.

The nuns were kind and helpful, and the room was clean with a comfortable bed and good hot water. It was a simple monastery stay, with a balcony that was a nice surprise. Breakfast came with baked goods, yogurt, jam, cheese, and cappuccino from a machine. We ordered dinner at the casa for 14 euros: rigatoni, baked chicken, salad, water, and wine. Simple but very tasty, and a great final evening of our Via Francigena pilgrimage.

La Storta train station is only a few minutes away on foot, though the ride into the center takes longer, so keep an eye on the timetable and don't miss the last train.
