A lovely albergo diffuso, and the management was great at keeping in touch.

I was just passing through Montepagano, but it felt so peaceful. From the village you can catch a glimpse of Roseto degli Abruzzi, where Gianluca Ginoble del Volo was born. On the walk up to the Belvedere, there’s even a sweet little moving nativity scene.

We arrived after 5 and used the small safe by the front door to collect the keys. It was quick and easy. Inside, despite the oppressive heat outside, the suite was pleasantly cool, with the breakfast table ready, pastries out, and the fridge stocked for the next morning. There’s also a voucher for breakfast at a local restaurant if you’d rather go out, though we didn’t use it, so I can’t say how it is. Our suite, Archibugera, is reached through the old parade ground in Montepagano’s ancient medieval village. Mrs. De Angelis has renovated several houses here as suites, and this one is carefully kept and welcoming. The medieval stone walls give it warmth, balanced by contemporary furnishings. I loved the table, a Tulip if I’m remembering right, along with the marine sculptures in two lit niches and the unusual floor lamp. There’s a large modern four-poster bed, a lovely sofa, and a generously sized TV. The room is comfortable, the space is used well, and the bathroom is roomy enough to be very comfortable without being huge. Two air conditioners, two windows, and a small terrace round it out. The services and amenities felt well matched to the price.
