Hotel Centrale

The rooms were roomy and comfortable, and the place felt very clean. We spent six days here over Christmas week and had a lovely stay. The hotel is right in the center, and the staff were warm and helpful throughout. The woman handling breakfast was especially courteous and professional. We’d be happy to come back.

The people working here are very friendly, and the breakfast staff were both pleasant and professional. Still, the facilities and the way the hotel is run need work. It feels priced and presented like a four-star place without really meeting that level. Our room was spacious, but the balcony was tiny. There were no mosquito screens, so leaving the doors or windows open meant bees could come in. The windows faced little villas, with businesses below. Reception closes at 8:00 PM. After that, entry is by intercom and door code, which felt unsafe to us: a couple let us in even though they’d never seen us before. If something unexpected happens, there’s no one at the hotel to help in person, just a cell phone number. The night before Ferragosto, at 10:00 PM, some young people were yelling, whistling, and making vulgar, rude noise in the corridors. With nobody on site in charge, they carried on. For three days we had a really irritating engine noise in the room. They offered to move us only the night before we left, so we turned it down since we were leaving the next morning.

For the price, this is good value, with a very central location, friendly staff, and a great breakfast. The furnishings look dated in style, and I found the mattress a little firm. Dogs can stay for an extra charge, but they’re barred from the restaurant, including breakfast. That feels contradictory and unacceptable to me. The hotel should either welcome dog owners throughout, perhaps with designated areas if that’s possible, or not accept them. People booking through a platform that says pets are welcome shouldn’t discover afterward that their dogs can’t join them in the breakfast room.

I stayed at the central hotel in the third week of August and felt right at home. My double room was gorgeous, newly renovated, and had every comfort. The spot was ideal too, near Conad and not too far from the center. I’ve never had such a lovely room. A couple of things could be improved: adding mosquito screens and running the shuttle to and from the center more often. The bathroom makes a noise when you switch on the light, but that’s a minor issue.
