Bed&Breakfast Salerno Centro storico

The B&B is in a strategic location, but there’s a lot that could be better, and our stay wasn’t very positive. Our room was on the 4th floor with no elevator. That was understandable in a historic building, but the shower hook was broken and, more frustratingly, there was no hair dryer. We realized after washing our hair, then asked if someone could bring one. Our request was pretty much ignored. I had to wait two hours for my hair to dry, and luckily it was summer. A little more kindness would have helped. We felt like a burden instead of guests. At least we were only there for one night.

This is an excellent bed and breakfast, and one of the few with reception open 24 hours, which is really handy with my work schedule. Breakfast is included even in the low season, and there’s a free shuttle to the garage.

The shuttle from the garage was driven by a lovely, courteous man (Pasquale?), and Marco was warm and friendly at breakfast. Miss Antonella also listened patiently to our complaints and kept our bags for a couple of hours after checkout. The rooms were clean, and the property is very central, with attractive furnishings and bathroom tiles. Still, this second visit was one we won't repeat. We had booked four rooms for nine people, including breakfast and dinner at the attached restaurant. The garage was described as affiliated and cost €20, but the staff member there was rude. At check-in, they asked for payment before we even had time to leave our bags or get into the room. None of the rooms had a bidet. The shower drain was clogged and nearly flooded the tiny bathroom; we were told the pipes were old. The sink tap was so scaled up that no water came out. A closet door was broken, though that was a minor issue by comparison. Dinner was the worst of it. We were served baked pasta with sour béchamel. When we complained, the owner apologized and said the chef had left the tray of pasta, prepared the day before, out of the refrigerator since morning. We were stunned. The other first course, seafood spaghetti, also definitely wasn't fresh that day. Serving acidic food is enough to shut a restaurant down. We'd ordered a bottle of white wine without being shown a menu, then found it cost €20. Since we'd left almost €600 and dealt with the problem without having the NAS called or disturbing other diners, we hoped the wine might be complimentary, or that they'd offer coffee or a pastry with dinner. That would have been a nice gesture. At breakfast the next morning, the barista was rude and unhelpful. There were only two croissants at first, and they weren't replenished for about an hour. We did eventually get breakfast. Thankfully, that was the end of our stay.

The room's shower and door were broken, and there wasn't a hairdryer. Breakfast was poor. We were on the fourth floor, with stairs everywhere, and parking wasn't provided. You have to pay at the machine, €2 per hour.
