Angelo and Maurizio made us feel more like friends than guests, and we’re sure to return. They were so welcoming and helped us shape the itinerary of visits and excursions we’d planned before leaving, with useful suggestions. We spent five days enjoying the natural surroundings at this beautiful, distinctive estate, which was a lucky find as our base for exploring the National Parks of Abruzzo.

The homemade breakfasts were a real treat, and Angelo and Maurizio made everything run smoothly. We loved their company too. We stayed five days at Tenuta Castelli in August 2024 and had a wonderful time. The place is charming and surrounded by nature, and the stone walls kept every room pleasantly cool, so we didn’t need air conditioning. The four lovely dogs were always ready to greet us, even when we’d only been away for a little while. It’s ideally placed for exploring the Comino Valley, and we’ll have to return!

Angelo and Maurizio were there whenever we needed them, and even helped with rides, lunch, some moral support, and a game of burraco when our car had trouble. They also invited us to dinner and shared their local products, which were sensational, especially the prosciutto. We were staying with our three-month-old, and she was relaxed too, enjoying the cool nights and watching the leaves in the daytime. The farmhouse sits in nature, with stone walls that keep the rooms cool. Two beautiful deer and lots of dogs came to welcome us, without being intrusive. And we already miss Angelo’s fresh breakfasts: he baked two different kinds of cakes, pies, or muffins every morning. We came back just yesterday and already want to return. It’s hard to imagine finding people this hospitable!

Angelo and Maurizio were so welcoming and did everything they could to make us comfortable. The estate is well placed for visiting different sights in the national park and, if you like, some lovely seaside spots too. We spent a beautiful week at Tenuta Castelli, a distinctive stone house surrounded by nature, with a large, relaxing porch for lunch, dinner, and especially breakfast. Angelo’s homemade cakes came with honey they produce themselves, jams, and natural yogurt. In the mornings, two fallow deer came up to the fence to say hello, and there were sweet, affectionate little dogs around too. There’s also a pool for cooling off. Thanks to Angelo and Maurizio, we recommend a stay here to everyone.

We were stunned by how this was handled. We had paid the full amount in advance, and despite leaving because of the unsanitary conditions, we weren’t offered a refund, just a generic “I’m sorry.” We had to head home, certainly not by choice. We travel everywhere and in all sorts of situations, but nothing like this had happened to us before, especially with a child. We’d chosen the place for our only holiday after a year of work, based on photos and positive reviews, but the very rustic property wasn’t suitable for that. The access road was in poor shape and turned muddy and slippery in the rain. The property felt somewhat abandoned, and the big drop between the driveway and the reinforced concrete slab wasn’t suitable for a child. Inside, our room was damp and dirty, with cobwebs, dead animals, a dirty fridge, stale air, and a dehumidifier already full when we arrived. The stone was meant to be a feature, but the microclimate it created produced fine dust that made everything we set down dirty. We spent two hours under the pergola trying to sort something out and got no response before deciding to leave.
