Hotel Vittoria

I'll let you decide how to judge the mistake they made. I first booked Hotel Vittoria through Booking.com, for check-in August 23rd and check-out August 30th. Later I asked to add two nights, checking in August 21st and leaving August 30th. They said they'd handle the booking and I could cancel on Booking, so I did. They then emailed me the detailed total for nine nights, including the in-room refrigerator service at €8 per night. On the morning of August 21st I emailed to share my arrival time. They called back soon after because they couldn't find my reservation. They apologized and had no idea how it had happened, especially as we'd exchanged several messages through August 16th. That day I'd asked about activities and excursions nearby, and they'd always replied kindly. I actually couldn't leave that day, so I started searching for last-minute alternatives. Then they called again to say they had a room from Saturday the 24th through the 30th, but I'd need to change rooms on Monday. I accepted and found another hotel for August 22nd and 23rd. I lost a vacation day and had the hassle of changing hotels, then changing rooms again within the same hotel. When I arrived at Hotel Vittoria on Saturday, the much-touted free parking lot was full. A little later I was able to move my car when I saw someone leaving. For six nights I paid €600 instead of €623. I had expected a discount on the refrigerator service, which was about 50%, though I thought they might waive it completely. I give breakfast and the generally friendly staff a positive rating. After all the apologies, I expected them to actually do something. Maybe they thought they'd made up for it by giving me one of the bigger rooms for the first two nights. It had a magnificent terrace where I could see the sunrise, but I suspect that was just coincidence, since it was the room available for those two days.

The location is excellent, close to the sea and within walking distance of the tourist center. The breakfast was perfect, varied, and well organized, and the staff were kind and courteous. I stayed with my husband from September 4th to 7th in a spacious room with a really comfortable bed. It was a nice hotel, but with a few more touches it could be even better. Honestly, with some upgrades, this one-star hotel could reach three stars. The two things that let the room down were the missing mini-fridge and a damaged bathroom cabinet. The large parking area is well laid out for all guests. I'd suggest adding lights along the driveway at night, perhaps LED lamps that switch on as guests pass, and maybe installing the decorative bollards. They should also consider having a night porter.

We booked well ahead on Booking.com, but ended up in a room practically on the ground floor inside the reception area. There was constant noise from people coming and going, as well as the telephone, even at 3 a.m. The room was functional, though the furnishings were dated. I gave it three stars, meaning "okay," because we only stayed one night. If we'd stayed longer, I honestly would have complained. There shouldn't be a room in that position, especially when we paid the same as for a "normal" room. From outside, the other rooms seemed much better placed, with little terraces or spaces out front and drying racks. We just weren't lucky. What a shame, given how strategically close the hotel is to the sea.
