The hotel sits just inside San Gimigniano’s town gate, in a couple of medieval buildings along the main route to the center. Tour groups make that road busy on foot, though cars are mostly kept out of the walled town. Once the groups leave, the town quiets down and is lovely to walk around in the evening. The hotel is close to the center. We upgraded to a countryside-view room and were glad we did. The view was sensational, especially in the morning as the sun came up and the mist cleared. It was quiet at all times, and the room was spacious and comfortable, with a decent shower room. Breakfast is served in the restaurant at the back, overlooking the countryside. There’s a wide selection of cheese, ham, salami, bread, croissants, and sweet pastries, and you can ask for eggs cooked however you like. The restaurant, which is managed separately, is very good too. The staff were all friendly and very helpful.

The hotel was packed when we visited, and the public parking lots were completely full, so its locked garage 150 meters away was extremely handy. Cars can’t enter the walls of San G., and the staff emailed us several times before arrival with parking details and directions to find the hotel. Our room had a lovely Tuscany view, was clean, and had a spacious bathroom. The king-size bed was great, although much too firm for my husband and me. The buffet had plenty of choices and was served in a restaurant with a pretty panoramic view over Tuscany. We’d definitely stay again.

The Tuscan views are stunning, and inside the hotel it’s a peaceful escape from the crowds. Its location within the walls of San G. couldn’t be better. I’d pay a little extra for the countryside view, it’s worth it. Breakfast had a good range, and all the staff were helpful and very friendly. Can’t fault it.

The breakfast views were the best, the rooms were comfortable, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. A friend sent us here, and now we’ve left, we already miss it. We hope to come back soon!

The location is great, but the rooms feel very dated. We paid for a terrace room with hill views and got a city-view room without a terrace. Reception blamed the travel agency, while the agency blamed the hotel. They could have accommodated us, but instead responded in a passive-aggressive way. Parking is expensive, and the restaurant was closed during our stay. The breakfast staff were great, though. We’d recommend booking somewhere outside San Gimignano instead.
