Meditur Hotel Bologna San Lazzaro

Just outside Bologna, this place was fantastic. Great rooms for the price, friendly staff, everything was clean and well run, and breakfast was included and really good.

Breakfast was probably the best part, with lots to choose from, though the coffee wasn't good. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, but when I mentioned that one of our rooms smelled of smoke from the previous guest, they insisted smoking was prohibited. Some people clearly don't care. We needed a place for one night before our flight, and the price was reasonable for what we got: two rooms for about £100 including breakfast. The rooms were very clean but dated, and some parts, mostly the rooms rather than the common areas, need refurbishment. The blinds should be replaced. The bed was great and there were plenty of pillows. The shower only trickled, but the bathroom was otherwise OK, with shower gel, shampoo and bath salts if needed. The building was kept very warm, so we had to leave the window open overnight. The air conditioning wasn't the best. I'd probably return if I couldn't find somewhere better next time. I'm surprised by the 4+ rating, though maybe I'm being a bit critical. I like to give honest advice.

There’s a nice garden where you can sit outside, and breakfast is good. The hotel is around a 20-minute drive from Bologna center, and sometimes a taxi takes 15-20 minutes to arrive. The building feels quite old, both in the room and the common areas. The room is large, but its age made it feel less clean. There’s no lift to the upper floor, so you have to carry your luggage.

I paid €570 for two nights and had just checked out, so I’d tell people to look elsewhere. There’s no restaurant, the decor is poor, and weeds are all over the car park. Breakfast was packets of food and instant coffee. I can’t see any value here or understand the good reviews. The hotel really needs to pull up its socks and give guests better service.
