We had a great time in the See Lodge spa, probably the best part of the place. The three nights we spent there between Christmas and New Year went so well that we booked a full week in September for some bio-hacking. It’s an adults-only zone right next to the family-oriented “big” Quellenhof, but you don’t hear or notice the main resort. You might cross over for the fitness area or some of the funky rooftop glass pools, which are for adults only. The half-board meals were top-notch. Breakfast had a great buffet and à la carte choices, and the self-serve juicer let you make whatever mix you liked. For Americans: the sauna and steam room are strictly clothing-free. I want to respond to a couple of things in other reviews and the owner’s replies. Some people mentioned very junior service staff, but that wasn’t our experience at all. Everyone we dealt with was a top professional, and the service was much better than what we recently had at a Ritz-Carlton in Dubai. The beds were a problem for me. If the mattresses are orthopedic, choosing them without considering each person’s weight and height seems like a mistake. My wife, at 165cm and 53kg, slept like a baby. I’m 197cm and 92kg, and slept terribly because it was far too soft. Reception arranged a replacement, which I appreciated, but that one was also far too soft. It felt like it had been used for years, though reception assured me it was brand new. I believe them, since it came wrapped in what looked like factory packaging. Our only bad experience was at the underwater restaurant, which is optional and not part of half-board. Finding clingfilm wrapped around my salmon was unpleasant. A glass of wine as compensation felt cheap given the cost of the meal.

I don’t consider myself a picky guest. If I get the food I ordered and accommodation that matches what I’m paying, I’m happy. But See Lodge seemed to get just about everything wrong. On holiday, especially at a place claiming five stars, I don’t want to have to chase after everything. For an eight-day stay costing a substantial five-figure amount in euros, I expect service reasonably close to perfect. If a hotel asks about food restrictions, I expect them to get it right. I expect my privacy to be respected and my room kept the way I want it. Plenty of hotels, even with lower ratings, do get these things right. I’ve recommended many to friends, family, colleagues, and clients over the years, and happily returned to them. See Lodge isn’t one of those places.

The See Lodge feels so luxurious, from the decor and walls to the sheets, bed, and meals. The lobby is gorgeous, and our room was amazing. Greta was fantastic and always looked after us. Christian and the whole restaurant team were fantastic, too. The set meal was surprisingly outstanding, and the dishes looked and tasted spectacular. Splurge on the Tomahawk! The Cigar Bar across the street was awesome. We also did the romantic cinema night, which was really cool. This is a resort. If you have kids, the regular Quellenhoff across the way is definitely the best choice in the Dolomites for a family. If you don’t have kids, splurge on the adults-only See Lodge side and enjoy!
