Antico Borgo Buonanotte

Giuseppe made Buonanotte unforgettable for us. He welcomed us so warmly, shared advice on what to see and do nearby, and cooked for us from the start. The food was wonderful, as was the wine, and making dinner together over a good conversation became a lovely way to end the day. I won't soon forget the night drive to San Mauro Castelverde for granita. Our 3-year-old son says Giuseppe's place was where he liked Sicily best. If you want to get away from the tourist trail, meet a wonderful host, and explore mountain towns like San Mauro Castelverde, Gangi, Sperlinga, and Geraci Siculo, this is a great base. When people ask about Sicily, I start with Buonanotte. Giuseppe, grazie infinite! The valley setting is wonderfully quiet, with only nature to hear, and the mountains make it easy to slow down and clear your head. The architecture feels authentic, the property is tastefully decorated, and the pool completes it all. In person, the place looks even better than in the photos.

We booked this getaway just 24 hours ahead, hoping for somewhere quiet in nature and away from the summer crowds. Ancient Borgo Buonanotte was a perfect fit: a lovely hamlet in a rewarding natural setting, away from housing and busy roads. The recently renovated property has only a few rooms, all spacious and comfortable. Its outdoor areas and distinctive pool are well kept, with a relaxed, intimate feel. It also makes it possible to reach mountain and coastal villages like Tusa, Finale, San Mauro, and Castel di Tusa within a 30-minute drive. There's a family-like, convivial atmosphere here, unlike big tourist spots where visitors can outnumber local people. Not to be missed.

The first part of our Sicily vacation couldn't have been better. Giuseppe is a wonderful cook and treats guests like family. His dinner was the best I've had in Sicily, and the peaceful place has roosters and other animals to wake you in the morning. The location is a little remote and access can be tricky, but that didn't bother us. There are lovely hilltop towns nearby. It's hard to keep this short, because people and places shape each other.
