B&B Les Chandelles

We had a good time, though for the price we could have found better. The owner was polite and helpful, and the villa was lovely, with a tastefully furnished room and ensuite bathroom. The location worked well for me, about 3km from the sea. It’s only an overnight stay. The shower had no soap dish and drained slowly, there was no Wi-Fi, and the TV’s smart card decoder only received RAI.

We left at 9:40, even though we’d planned to check out at 10. At 9:20 the lady knocked and shouted through the door, without even saying good morning, that we had to leave by 10. We’d set an alarm and were going to be out on time. That kind of rudeness is no way to treat guests. The bed was hard, and the pillow was just as lumpy and hard as a Gargano rock. There was no breakfast, and we had to leave by 10 the next morning. The room cost €160 for one night in Gargano on August 19th, which hardly felt modest for a B&B without the breakfast. Check-in was only from 4 to 6 PM, a very short window for people on vacation. We were driving 540 km from Isola di Capo Rizzuto and running late, so at 6 PM we called the Booking.com number to check if that would be a problem. A very kind gentleman said arriving at 7 PM was fine. Then at 6:40 the lady called angrily, saying check-in was closed. We told her we’d already spoken to someone at the property, and she rudely asked when we’d arrive. People who treat visitors this way damage Italy’s reputation and tourism. Avoid her for the sake of tourism. She should find another job.

I’m going back, and my opinion isn’t negative. There were 10 of us in the attic apartment, and some of the listed amenities really were missing. Keep in mind, though, that it’s a B&B, and with good company on vacation, everything’s fine. The owner can be a bit intrusive. She should remember guests pay and can do what they want within their rights.

Everything was awful, from the owner and building to the rooms and beds. The beds were rusty military cots, if you can even call them beds. Breakfast didn’t exist; they might as well close it, nobody would miss it. Definitely avoid.
