This was a lovely break from the city, and Lucca, Pisa, and Florence are all a short drive away. The medieval villa is arranged as a closed-loop compound over two levels connected by a wooden staircase. It feels cosy and is tastefully decorated, with the essentials provided. There are two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms, neither attached to a bedroom, though only one has a shower. Linen and towels were clean, and extra bedcovers and pillows were available. The kitchen is fully equipped with basic utensils and a few simple breakfast items. If you drink tea, bring your own. The owners were supportive and flexible, and replied quickly on Booking.com. Free public parking is within walking distance. A couple of small drawbacks: there are no mirrors in the bedrooms, only small ones in the bathrooms. There was no mobile signal inside for Windtre or iliad. Wi-Fi is free, but can be weak in the bedrooms, so it isn't a good fit for smart working.

Garfagnana has lovely villages, striking views, and plenty of hikes in the middle and higher mountains. We had a really pleasant stay in an old stone house, renovated with care to add comfort while keeping its character. The owners were very helpful and gave us space.

We spent three days in this hidden treasure, a real marvel in a tiny, beautiful village in the heart of Garfagnana. The house feels warm and welcoming, with generous spaces, thoughtful details, and tasteful art throughout. Everything about our stay was impeccable. Matteo and Vittorio were lovely hosts, always kind and helpful. We’ll definitely return, hopefully soon. It deserves more than 10!

The garden is well kept and has a barbecue, and the house has everything you need. If peace and quiet in a beautiful landscape is what you want, with room to walk and breathe, this is the place.
