Holiday Residence Terra di Mare, San Teodoro

For six days, our family of four stayed in an apartment, and the value for the money was well below average. The sofa bed was so uncomfortable that the floor might have been better. Our room was dirty when we arrived, with unclean floors and stained bed linen. It was also very mouldy, and the enclosed shower was tiny, no more than a square metre. Nobody serviced the room during our stay, and we didn't get fresh towels. We were even expected to take out our own rubbish, which left us wondering what we had paid for. When I raised it at checkout, I got a lame answer. I asked for the manager's name, but he refused to give it, which made things even more aggravating. The staff were very nice, but management and its internal processes need a revamp to make guests comfortable.

The room was a bit tired, and there was a jungle growing inside the lampshade. Still, the staff were amazing, and the town was an easy walk away, even for me after knee surgery. The wine and pool were great. I'd stay again.

Barbara, the concierge, helped us arrange some really special excursions, and all the staff were incredible. The location was ideal, with lots of beaches nearby and downtown restaurants just a five-minute walk away. We'd recommend it to anyone staying in San Teodoro.

The bar staff were great, though the bar closed at 23:00, so for later drinks you need to head into town. There was a good choice for lunch, and breakfast had plenty to pick from, including cured meats, scrambled eggs, cereals and fruit. Parking was good, and the main centre, with its bars, restaurants and evening market, was a fairly short walk away.
