Hotel Laguna

The room was extremely uncomfortable in 35-degree heat. Although the rooms are advertised with air conditioning, every unit shuts off at 10 pm, even in summer. I asked staff for help getting it switched back on, first at 10:30 and again at 1 am, but nobody helped. The next day, staff were extremely rude and demanded that I pay and leave. Avoid at all costs.

The younger woman who greeted us was nice and accommodating, but the women we dealt with the next morning showed no sympathy or care. When I tried to explain what had happened, one asked if I spoke German. I said I didn’t, and she shrugged and ignored me after that. If that’s how the business is run, they should say they don’t want English-speaking people on their site. The problem was the air conditioning. It shouldn’t be advertised if it’s turned off at night, especially in the middle of summer when that’s the one time you’re in your room. At a minimum, they should provide a window or fan. Our only option was leaving the door open, which let in light that kept us awake until 2 am. We spent three weeks in Italy, and this was the only bad place I stayed. Dinner was fine, though the house wine was bad. I skipped breakfast because I just wanted to leave, and it didn’t look impressive anyway.

After a terrible night without air conditioning, we tried talking to reception and got nothing but a hostile, rude woman. If you speak English, this hotel won’t want to serve you. It was my worst experience in Italy, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Lake Garda is beautiful, but this experience pretty much ruined my vacation. I’m from the US, and I think Google reviews give customers a place to share how we experienced things. I guess a hotel can ban customers for any reason, but taking away a room key before someone can pack and check out is scary. I had booked three nights, but on my second day the hotel manager called me out about my review in a threatening manner. He said, “Two words!! Explain to me the problem!!” When I tried to explain, he kept interrupting and wouldn’t let me finish. They then took my key while my luggage was still in the room, even though checkout wasn’t until the next day. Another hotel manager called my travel agency, and after things were clarified, they finally gave the key back so I could pack and check out. The original review, which I posted at check-in, was about the third-party website’s misleading listing. It says air conditioning is available in the general description, but apparently it’s only in selected rooms. For that reason, I definitely wouldn’t recommend the hotel.
