Miramare Gallipoli Hotel

The private jacuzzi was the reason we paid for the room, but it was broken when we arrived. We kept being told it would be fixed the next day, until two days before we left, when they said it would take 15 days. Dead insects were floating in the water from day one (see pictures), so they were the only ones who got to enjoy the pool. The staff were very lethargic and kept blaming the problems on us vacationing in Italy. We had to chase them for compensation instead of being offered it. The owner clearly doesn't know how to run a business or treat clients. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Please be careful with this hotel's payment system. I wanted to book a room for my holiday but wasn't comfortable sending money or card details, so I asked several times whether they accepted PayPal. I didn't hear back, so I sent a €10 test payment to check. PayPal confirmed the money had gone through and left my account. I emailed the hotel with proof and asked if I could pay the rest, since I was ready to continue with the booking. They finally replied that they couldn't accept PayPal because of some Italian law. I understood and said I wouldn't go ahead with the booking. Since early June 2019, I've emailed repeatedly asking for my money back, even sending instructions on how to issue a refund and trying to be patient. So far, I haven't had a reply to those emails. I think it's very poor that they keep my payment instead of refunding it, perhaps because I didn't proceed with the booking. My deposit still hasn't been refunded.

We loved staying here and would definitely return. It was peaceful, away from the city and Gallipoli's bustle, and the beach was a real treat. The umbrellas are a little close together, but the staff kindly help you find a good spot. We brought beach shoes because the entrance was said to be rocky, though after a short walk we found fine white sand and shallow water. The half-board meals were generous, well seasoned and delicious, and you could choose lunch or dinner. The restaurant is right on the beach, with a beautiful view. Breakfast was another highlight: alongside the usual frozen croissants, there were seven different homemade cakes each morning, all delicious. Our double room had a sea view and was spotless, with everything we needed. The description mentioned a smaller double room with a French bed, which was much cheaper. The balcony was actually a huge, lovely terrace. The hotel itself was very clean, and the receptionist was kind and helpful. Parking right in front made unloading luggage easy, and the road is quiet, with access only for people going to the hotel. I was nervous after reading the reviews, but trusted my instincts and booked. Everything was as described. I made the right call.
