Hotel Villa Sophia

The building is well located, but it's very old and needs renovation. The staff were generally professionally friendly, that's about it. Breakfast was very basic, and because of the COVID rules we weren't allowed to serve ourselves, even though two other hotels we'd stayed in had no such restrictions. Employees served us in a very rigid way, which made us feel rushed to eat and leave. We couldn't enjoy a relaxed breakfast. The AC made so much noise that sleeping was difficult, the water pressure was very low, and the electrical installation seemed like a technical and safety risk.

An old fashioned hotel, kept nice and clean, with a good breakfast. A pleasant path through the grounds takes you straight to the promenade and beach walk.

Villa Sophia has free, secure parking, and a private beach just a short walk away. Though it's close to downtown, the hotel sits off the main road in an enclosed convent setting, so it's peaceful and feels far from the busy city, even though it's only 200 feet away. I've stayed here for many years, first when it was Villa Sapienza and now as Villa Sophia, and it keeps delivering the friendly, well run experience I expect. It's not posh, but it's certainly no dive either. The breakfast is great and plentiful, and if you've got a couple of days, I recommend paying extra for full board. Lunch and dinner are a wonderful experience too. My 5 star rating is for a three star hotel that gives you a great stay.

The rooms were big and clean, with plenty of cool shade in summer, and the staff were friendly and efficient. It's a lovely, quiet spot, set in a beautiful garden about 50 yards towards the beach. The busy San Remo streets are left behind as you walk in. Loved it.
