Agriturismo Borgonuovo

We had booked Sunday lunch, and on Sunday morning he sent me photos of the food he was preparing on WhatsApp. But when we arrived, the manager called down from the balcony to say he’d just woken up and wouldn’t be serving. He said he’d been about to call me. When I pointed out the food photos he had sent, he claimed they must have gone out automatically because his phone was still off. That didn’t fit with his saying he was just about to call me. I’d avoid booking if you’re traveling a long way, as we were, because you could end up without lunch. I assume we were the only reservation and he decided not to open, but even a few hours’ warning would have helped since I’d driven 70 kilometers specifically for this. He also only takes cash.

A truly awful stay. The place was dirty, the duvets smelled, and the bathroom was filthy all over. The rooms felt frightening. In the restaurant there was a bad smell, dirt under the chairs, cobwebs, and outside was covered in slime and weeds. The kitchen was no better. I don’t understand how it’s still open to the public, though a NAS inspection would close it, in my opinion. There’s no phone reception anywhere on the property, and the air conditioning didn’t work, so it was freezing. Gaetano was completely unpresentable, even worse than the rooms, and went in and out of the kitchen in that state. He came into the room without knocking and acted with an arrogance to match the dirt under his nails. I’m stunned. I hope nobody else goes there.

Only the view was any good. The owner was rude, and came into the rooms without knocking or asking permission. The cleaning was poor.

The food was plentiful and excellent, and the owners were friendly, attentive to what we needed, and made us feel at home. It’s a beautifully kept agriturismo and a real haven of peace. You can enjoy the valley view outside, take a stroll, and breathe the fresh air surrounded by nature. The service was excellent and thoughtful. Highly recommended.
