We chose Il Varo a Mare after seeing the lovely Booking.com photos and reviews. The place itself has a beautiful setting, but getting there meant taking a very bad unpaved road, with a view of rundown plastic greenhouses. We wondered if we'd taken a wrong turn, since it looked nothing like the picture we'd formed from the photos. There wasn't any hot water when we tried to shower in the morning. Still, we had to pay the entire €92 booking cost, including local taxes. Then Il Varo a Mare marked us as a "no show" on Booking.com, even though we had been there and paid by credit card on the spot. The setting is lovely, but the value for money just isn't there. On our 9-day holiday in Sicily, we stayed in eight other places around the island, and they had much more class and quality for a lot less.

The fish dinner was the biggest surprise, with fresh dishes and plenty of variety. Simone was also always on hand with suggestions for places to eat or tours. We spent four restful nights at the B&B, in a quiet area with incredible views and a private pebble beach.

Surrounded by nature, this place has a beautiful private beach, and the rooms are spacious and really comfortable. Simone puts a lot of care into the property, and you can tell how much it means to him. I'd love to come back soon ❤

My wife and I had our honeymoon here and loved it. Franchesco made us feel welcome and was a big help, and Mama was such a lovely, classic Italian grandmother. I'd happily return again and again, if there weren't so much more of the world to see!
