Hotel Villa Alberti Portofino Land

The price we paid in advance was 140 euro per night including breakfast, which is exceptional for S Margherita and good value. The room was basic and had no coffee. Rooms at Via Alberti are in a sister property across from the main hotel, The Mettroranian, an old building that’s kept nice. Breakfast is continental and served at the main hotel. The location is excellent, about a 10-minute walk to everywhere, though the train station is a 20-minute uphill walk. City tax is 4 euro per person per night, and parking costs 38 Euros with no other parking available.

We paid extra for the location near Portofino, but the room didn't feel up to today's standards for that price. The power cut out twice during our one-night stay. At least the service was quick. Breakfast was just okay, and we expected a lot more.

The reception staff were the bright spot, really friendly and helpful. The rest of our one-night stay wasn't pleasant. Our ground-floor room felt very old, not like a four-star hotel, and there was mold in the shower that came off while we were using it. The towels smelled of vinegar, and street noise came through so clearly that we didn't sleep well. Breakfast works if all you want is coffee and a pastry.

We ended up here because the hotel across the street was sold out, and they offered us a room in this building. I think we had room #6. It was quiet in the evening, and huge, with a little kitchen area with a stove, pots and pans, a sink, dining table, and sofa bed. The marble bathroom was massive and my favorite part. The toiletries smelled so good, too. The location was great, and breakfast was included at the hotel across the street. There isn't staff at this location, so you check in across the street first. The manager at the other hotel was great.
