We'd asked for a quiet room, but were told there wasn't one available, and ours faced the road, so there was some traffic noise. The room itself was fine. Breakfast was continental, with not much set out. Since we had an early flight, we asked the morning before leaving if we could take a few things for breakfast the next day. The young person working there was unpleasant, but did give us a small plastic bag and napkins. There wasn't much we could take, and after we left we noticed the wrapped biscuits were out of date. We arrived at 2:30 pm, although reception was supposed to open at 2. No one was there, so a man working next door called for us. A woman arrived 20 minutes later without apologizing, and wasn't friendly or even smiling. Then she argued with me at the desk over the city tax. My confirmation email said €1.50 per person per night, but she said it was €2 and showed me that on her computer. It wasn't about the money, it was the principle, since I had the email confirming the lower price. The whole exchange made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. The host was very unpleasant, and I wouldn't recommend the place. Karen, Glasgow.

This place suited me whether I was here on holiday or for work. I never had a problem with the air conditioning, WiFi or TV, and each day my room was spotless, with fresh towels and linens. Breakfast was served every morning, and I could park my rental car out back. The whole staff were really friendly and helpful, especially the kind receptionist. They know the area well and gave me ideas for local vendors and day trips. I got five star service without the fuss, and I'll definitely choose to stay here again. No complaints, and I was sorry to leave. Sarzana is a lovely town to walk around, with quaint markets and Tuscan colors and atmosphere. You get that feel without the sky high prices of places like cinque terre, plus fewer lines and crowds. It feels like somewhere locals spend time. The hotel is in the center of town, near great markets and nightlife. The beach, mountains and local food are all within 5-10 minutes, and you don't need a car to get around. I've spent many summers in this part of Italy, and this stay gave me the good sides of the area without the downsides. If you want to get out and have a local experience instead of spending your vacation in a hotel room or tourist trap, it's a great spot.

The air conditioning worked well and the beds were clean, which was all we needed then. We could still get a warm shower, though the shower head was coming apart. The floors seemed not to have been swept or cleaned for a while. Even a little time barefoot left our feet dirty and sore. It's not a bad place, but it needs more attention to detail.

I only had this as an option for one night in central Sarzana, but I wouldn't stay again. The room was full of smoke, and everything smelled smoky. I asked to change rooms, but couldn't because the receptionist had to close up and hurried home. A very poor experience. If you're looking for a city center stay in this area, I'd pick La Spezia over Sarzana.

Albergo la villetta is right in downtown Sarzana. It's very clean, and the breakfast is excellent.
