The convenient location is about the only reason I’d consider staying here. Our rooms were shockingly dirty, with dust everywhere and whole clumps under the beds. I took a photo after we swept the rooms ourselves on the first day. There were hairs in the beds and even a nasal strip in the shower, which made it seem like the room hadn’t been cleaned before we arrived. The rooms were also badly neglected, with chipped, ruined kitchen counters. For a week, four of us got just two rolls of toilet paper, and our towels were never changed. What a shame. I strongly advise against staying here.
We had a good time and I’d return. The village has a few restaurants and bars, lovely views, and a peaceful feel, while still making it easy to get to Sestriere. There’s a shuttle about every half hour, which is handy if you want to ski and leave the car parked. The staff were friendly and helpful, though the amenities are limited. Our apartment for five had just the basics, two toilet paper rolls per bathroom and a tiny bottle of dish soap. We could have asked at reception, but ended up buying more at the supermarket. The buildings are from the 1980s and 1990s and feel dated. If you’re not fussy, it’s a good option.
We were there for a week for the Giro d'Italia, and the cleanliness, location, parking and the rest of the experience were good. We were sporty and easygoing, so we could adapt to most things. But we couldn’t cope with the cold in the two apartments. I understand the heating couldn’t be turned on, even when evening temperatures can get down to 10 degrees Celsius with thunderstorms, but it was so cold you could barely stand it. If I’d been there with my family and a small child instead of friends, I would have left. One or two electric heaters cost €20. Maybe I’ll try again, but I’ll ask before booking.
I found Grangesises comfortable and practical. It’s a new village, built with a much better nod to mountain architecture than Sestriere. Parking was easy, and the kitchen was basic but enough. When we needed help, the staff responded quickly.
Poor organization. We booked two apartments at Grange Hike & Ski through booking.com for one night, seven people in total. After booking, we called about bringing a dog. They checked and said it was fine, with a €35 supplement. Then, the day before we were due to arrive, they told us the reservation was cancelled because the owner doesn’t accept one-night bookings. I called to point out that this hadn’t been written anywhere, and we’d already spoken with staff about the dog without anyone mentioning the one-night rule. There were seven of us ready to travel at short notice, including a pregnant woman, but they wouldn’t budge. Luckily we found somewhere else. I’d give it 0 if I could.
