Hotel La Margherita

The room standards weren't okay, and the staff seemed bothered by guests. This felt more like a hostel than a hotel. Breakfast was poor, and refills seemed off limits. If you didn't arrive early, you couldn't count on having food. We even brought our own bread, but staff still said we'd eaten too much. We aren't obese and don't eat more than anyone else. They put out a third of a cucumber for everyone to share. There were four of us and only three croissants, and staff were rude about that too. We had to ask for empty plates to be refilled. Sometimes the answer was no, and other times they did it reluctantly. Staff were rude and used foul language. The girl checking us out yelled at us and threw us out of the room even though we hadn't stayed past checkout. Another staff member yelled in our faces and got highly irritated because we didn't want to check out before 10. Customer service felt nonexistent. They told guests they ate too much even though we'd brought our own bread because the serving was so poor. It felt cheap. They only want your money. The pool was at another hotel, at least a 200 m walk away. Locals from the village also used it, and chairs were reserved for friends instead of guests. Locals got priority for service too. There were no changing rooms, so you had to use the toilets. The pool was full of large bugs, and nobody seemed to try to remove them during the day. Even the pool staff were rude and unhelpful. Privacy was a big concern. They made us leave our key at reception, with no locks securing the keys and no staff member managing them. Someone could take a key and enter your room, so there was no security at all. We felt watched and monitored the whole time, which was disgusting. Other people at the hotel told us they felt the same way. On the first day, staff went into my daughter's room and wanted us to leave it for seven hours so they could fix plumbing problems from outside. The hotel also charges 2 euros per person each day in tax, payable in cash, and gives no receipt, even though room payments can be made by credit card. The hotel's own restaurant adds a 3 euro per person service charge. That's customary when eating out, but usually not at a hotel. The photos don't represent this hostel. Worst hotel experience by far. We couldn't wait to leave.

The location is well placed and, for this area, not too expensive. The rooms are clean and spacious, and the service was prompt and friendly. Recommended.
