Hotel Santa Lucia

Breakfast had plenty to choose from, including individual portions of biscuits, cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt, juice, jam and chocolate, plus delicious freshly baked croissants. The room we picked was on the ground floor because it cost less than the newer rooms upstairs. We knew there was no mini-fridge in the room, just a shared one in the main living room, and that the mattress was rather hard from an earlier review. It was dated, but decent and clean, and we stayed seven nights. For a fair price, we got a functional, clean room, a friendly and attentive owner, and access to a huge new pool. Other places with pools cost three times as much. We also brought our dog at no extra cost, as everyone else did. I think ratings depend on what people expect, what’s offered and what they actually get. I don’t understand the low ratings. People complaining about breakfast may be hoping for salty food to take to the beach and “scrounge” for lunch. See you soon...

The price felt too high for the quality of the hotel. My room was clean, though I heard other guests mention problems with room cleanliness. The property is surrounded by greenery and away from the bustle, while still being handy for driving to the sea and other attractions.

The beach was the bright spot, with all the amenities and a decent kitchen. At the hotel, the facilities were only just adequate, and cleanliness needs improvement. Breakfast was fine, but the room where it was served was too exposed to construction dust. The receptionist deserves credit for trying to manage everything on her own, she was always there. The bumpy road caused us to break a motorcycle stand and footboard. Before we come back, we’ll check whether the work is finished and the road has been smoothed out.
