We came away feeling rested after the hectic city, with songbirds as the only sounds around us. The owners were always on hand if we needed anything, and their care for the little community they’ve built was clear everywhere. The houses have the usual kitchen and bathroom essentials, plus air conditioning, heated towel racks, a washing machine, and an iron and board. There were basic supplies too, including oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, sugar, soap, and detergent, enough to get by before a supermarket trip. The closest one is about ten minutes away and very well stocked. Poggio La Croce sits among green plants, flowering bushes, and fruit trees, reached by a dirt road through pines and cypresses after leaving Scarlino. From the houses there are lovely views across the valley and hills, and charming medieval villages are nearby. The salt-treated infinity pool looks out over a line of dense cypresses, and there are woodland walking paths stretching for kilometers. We also saw plenty of mountain bikers and e-bike riders going up and down the rolling hills. The beach and hillside towns, some just fifteen minutes away in different directions, made a great base for trying local food, including wild boar, fresh fish, and good wine. Maremma at its best, highly recommended.

The Tuscan setting near Scarlino is beautiful and has potential, but our stay at Poggio la Groce was marred by a lot of inconveniences. The apartment felt like a 2- to 3-star place, disappointing for the high price. The last 1.5 km to the property was sandy and unpaved, so we had to drive carefully to avoid damaging the car. Beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable, making it difficult to sleep. Dogs nearby started barking as early as 6 a.m. and carried on intermittently day and night. In the evenings, barbecue smoke from the ground-floor guests made sitting outside unpleasant. We were given only one roll of toilet paper, and there was no towel exchange during our stay. The bathroom was cramped for four people, and the kitchen wasn't in good condition, which made cooking less enjoyable. I'd suggest looking elsewhere if noise bothers you, you need a comfortable bed, or you want easy access to your accommodation.

I visited in May 2019 and loved the quiet setting inside the national park, with lovely views and the beach not far away. The place was very clean and the service was good. I'd happily come back someday, especially for a peaceful break away from cities and crowds. Highly recommended.

We all loved our five days here, including the kids, who were 14, 12, and 8. The hosts were so welcoming, and the villa was exceptionally clean. It’s a lovely spot to relax and take in the countryside views. There’s a nice beach within a 40-minute drive, and Siena is about 90 minutes away. I wish we’d booked a longer stay.

We had a great time and will return soon. This charming hotel sits in the heart of Maremma, near the sea, with plenty of parking and good value for money, even if the rate might seem high. Booking ahead is essential. Shops, a chemist, a bread shop, and lots of restaurants are nearby. The owners were friendly, courteous, and ready to help. The complex welcomes dogs, and we brought our three large ones. I got the impression the dogs were more welcome than we were! The grounds are in the middle of a cork-oak plantation, where we saw cork bark being harvested. Wildlife included a fox, a heard of wild boars, a land turtle, plenty of birds, owls, swallows, and hummingbirds. Each bungalow has a terrace and private garden, and there’s a pool to enjoy. The bungalows are modern, energy efficient, well maintained, clean, and comfortable. The only thing I missed was curtains on the doors and windows, especially in the master bedroom, where they would have made it feel more private and elegant. Thanks to the owners for everything.
