The photos and good reviews gave us one impression, but the bungalow we were given was a small mobile home with four beds and thin MDF walls. It had WiFi and air conditioning, but very little room to prepare a meal, no microwave, and the available pans were shown in the photo. The bathroom had no space to get ready for the beach, and there was no TV to entertain an active child indoors. At first sight I was disappointed, and the gas smell worried me. We were told we could cancel, paying for the cleaning and the weekend nights already spent, since they could easily find other guests. We had to wait until Monday to speak with the owner, Charlie. He said we would have to pay for a week out of the two we had booked, 1020€ for two nights, because booking.com charged them. But when I read booking.com, I saw that the cancellation fee was entirely at the owner's agreement. We ended up spending a holiday day looking for a last-minute holiday house and moving, and lost a fair bit of money. I learned that photos can be misleading, that two different accommodation standards shouldn’t be mixed, and that free cancellation really matters.

The greenery and freedom here seem to make the animals love Tortuga. It’s a wonderful place, and the hosts are friendly and helpful.

We felt at home here and can’t wait to come back. The owners’ kindness, warm smiles, and enthusiasm for sharing their homeland made the stay special. They made us feel like friends instead of guests, and welcomed and pampered our pets like stars. The residence sits in a peaceful, bucolic setting, with meticulously kept grounds full of greenery. It was lovely for relaxing and walking with our four-legged friend, and the pool surrounded by plants was perfect for unwinding. The place has an authentic Tuscan feel, with tidy, clean spaces that brought a sense of peace right away. I recommend it, especially if you’re traveling with pets. We were welcomed with kindness and professionalism, but also with the familiarity that made us feel at home right away. It’s a stunning place, with rustic but elegant Tuscan-style accommodations, spacious rooms, and plenty of greenery where our four-legged friends were welcome. It was our first time at Tortuga, and thanks to the staff and the place, I’m sure we’ll have a wonderful, well-deserved holiday. My husband’s review will follow with the rest of the story.
