Hotel Fanes

The location is good, the breakfast was fine, and the room cleaning was satisfactory. A Romanian gentleman working in the breakfast area each morning also stood out for showing real hospitality. Beyond that, my stay was extremely disappointing. As someone in the hospitality industry, I found the experience far below basic standards for a hotel claiming to be four stars. On arrival, staff could clearly see us waiting with the car, but we were left there for more than ten minutes without help. Once inside, reception was empty, and we waited another ten minutes for the receptionist to appear. There was no way to call someone, so we had to ask staff in other areas to find him. The food was a serious concern. At breakfast I mistakenly ate what I thought was apple pie, then realized it contained pork. I'm Muslim and don't eat pork under any circumstances. I spat it out immediately, but serving food without proper labels was irresponsible and deeply disrespectful. At dinner, the salmon smelled unpleasant and I vomited right after eating it. That raises serious concerns about food safety, kitchen hygiene, and quality. When I went downstairs to report these issues, nobody could understand English. The staff member in charge could neither speak nor understand it, so I couldn't properly explain such serious concerns. That's unacceptable for a hotel serving international guests. We also stayed an extra night on departure day. Since the original booking was made with my American Express card, we wanted to pay with it again. The receptionist insisted the hotel doesn't accept Amex. I believe this was false, as Amex is obviously accepted, and it seemed he simply didn't want to process the payment because of the commission. We had to use a different card against our wishes. That was another negative, unprofessional experience. The lack of reception service, language communication, food labeling, food safety, and the payment issue made the stay very unpleasant and far below expectations.
