Agriturismo Montecchio

We spent a week here with our family, including four children, from 15/08 to 22/08. The house and countryside are beautiful, and the host shared local information and helped us book a lovely restaurant. She lives on site and kept interrupting our dinners and time together, though she was kind in other ways. For a larger family or group, the lack of cooking facilities, a washing machine and a dishwasher makes a stay longer than a few days difficult. If you plan to use the pool, bring your own towels. There are two dogs. They aren't aggressive, but might not suit young children or people who aren't used to animals.

We still had a fantastic holiday, mostly thanks to the views and the people we were with, but the facilities need work. During our stay from Monday 15th to Monday 22nd August 2022, there was no washing machine, so we used the same sheets and towels for all seven nights. There were just two coffee mugs and very few glasses, so we bought plastic ones; with 11 people, there was only one oven. The main kitchen was poorly lit, bins were inadequate, and we had to carry rubbish several kilometres to a local tip. One building had no hot water for four days. WiFi worked only now and then and didn't cover the whole property, there was no air conditioning or window mosquito nets, and the dogs hung around at mealtimes and barked on and off day and night. The host lives on site and lingered around a lot, and cleaners started before 8am despite the 10am checkout. Still, the setting is beautiful, with a big rustic building, a great pool, excellent views and the Hot Pools nearby.

The pool was a real blessing, always spotless, and the water stayed clean. We also loved our welcoming attic apartment, with its large kitchen and lovely outdoor space for meals and relaxing. We ended up here after leaving another property we didn't like, and stayed six days in this corner of paradise. Maria welcomed us warmly and discreetly, never intruding. We had a wonderful time. We loved the quiet and the chance to reconnect with ourselves, away from the city's bustle. The Agriturismo sits in the pristine nature of the Tuscan Maremma, with a fabulous view. In the morning and evening, you can sometimes spot fawns and roe deer just steps away. The apartments are well furnished and have everything needed for cooking. There are two dogs and several cats, all sociable, affectionate and welcoming. Maria was so helpful, giving us tips on buying excellent local olive oil and on places to visit. Terme di Saturnia is about 10-15 minutes away, and Montemerano, Pitigliano, Sovana, Sorano and Semproniano are also places to visit. Unforgettable.
