The breakfast deserves praise: it was great, the view was spectacular, and the breakfast staff remembered which coffee we ordered. Still, I wouldn't recommend this B&B if warm hospitality matters to you. There are plenty of nearby businesses with good breakfasts and views that seem more interested in welcoming guests. The older generation at the family-run Hotel Villa Maria, especially the male proprietor, made us feel like poor cousins who had overstayed. At check-in and when asking for or returning a beach towel, he didn't acknowledge us. We waited awkwardly at reception while he browsed the internet or watched a YouTube video at full volume. We had to say hello or excuse me before he'd look up. The walk up to the B&B is very steep, and difficult with large suitcases, especially in rain. We were traveling for three weeks. With a carry-on or backpack, it should be fine. We had to arrange our own luggage transport on a golf buggy for €10 each way. It went from the garage down the hill and wasn't affiliated with the hotel. Parking at that same garage costs €20 per day, and is also run by the buggy operators, not the hotel. The mattress was old and thin enough that we could feel its springs, and the pillows were lumpy and nearly nonexistent. Because the plumbing is old, keep the bathroom windows open and the door shut, or the sewage smell will spread into the room. We noticed it at check-in and again after a full day exploring Ischia. The room had no basic coffee or tea facilities and no mini fridge.

Dinner at the hotel was a standout, especially the incredible antipasti. It was good value, particularly next to port prices. Our room had a stunning sea view, though getting up the steep path to the hotel took effort. There's a gentler route into the port that makes the walk easier in the heat. We stayed four days and loved our time there. It felt like a proper family-run hotel. Nino was kind and helpful, and the other staff were lovely and attentive. We can't wait to return. One downside was the noise. We were woken every morning by the loud conversation of the couple next door, and another pair played a YouTube yoga video at full volume from the roof. If you're German, please keep the noise down. If you're not, be aware the hotel is full of loud Germans.

The sea view from our room was outstanding, and the food was incredible. The staff were welcoming and very nice. Mimmo at reception was our favorite, a cool gentleman who was always ready to help and made an effort to speak English with us. My fiancée and I stayed three nights at this beautiful villa, family-run since the 1960s. We could hear noisy neighbors talking loudly in another room, but that wasn't the villa's fault. We'll definitely return and look forward to seeing everyone again.

Dinner at the hotel is well worth trying. They use plenty of ingredients from the garden, and the food is excellent for the price, with lovely terrace views. The nearby beach is an easy short walk, with reasonable sun lounger prices and exceptional beach bar food at lunch. The hotel is family-owned and run, and they put real care and passion into looking after guests. We stayed seven nights and genuinely couldn't fault the hotel or staff. Everyone was attentive, sincere, and always ready to help. The views, location, and food were all great. It's about a 5-10 minute walk uphill from the main Sant'Angelo Square, which we enjoyed. We highly recommend the evening meals and will be back next year.

My husband and I stayed at hotel Villa Maria in July and had a fantastic time. It felt welcoming throughout, and we loved the family ownership, staff, owners, food, location, and peaceful atmosphere. This is the hotel you always hope to find, not an ordinary place to stay. Ingerlise & Michael, July 2025
