Apparthotel Residence Alpenrose

The location is lovely, and we'll return to Sesto, but we won't stay in this residence again. We booked at the last minute and ended up with this place. I really can't recommend it. The parking is convenient, and the apartment was clean, but otherwise it felt closer to one and a half stars than the advertised three. The furnishings are basic, and the bathroom is cramped, with barely any counter space for toiletries for two, never mind four. In apartment 122, the TV is behind the door and can only be watched while standing. The shared room had an old smell. We noticed the lack of care as soon as we arrived to check in. The outside looked neglected too, much less maintained than you'd expect in this part of South Tyrol. The host was poorly available.

The little kitchenette has the basics, a compact fridge, kettle, and coffee maker, but no microwave. The rooms work fine, though the equipment is dated.

The place itself is lovely, and the apartments are extremely clean, with very comfortable beds and kitchens. Some bathrooms have bidets and some don't. The location is a full 10/10. What let the stay down was the welcome and the lack of kindness. They never mention that consumables aren't included, from toilet paper and dish soap to oil, salt, and sugar. I emailed several times and got no reply, though they answered before I sent the bank transfer. On Sunday the owner came by to water the flowers, so I asked about the supplies. The response was quite arrogant: it was Sunday, and according to the rules, they didn't have to provide them. I'd like to know where those rules are, since they're nowhere on the website or noticeboard. They said supplies are offered as a courtesy for the first day, but what was there had already been opened and was almost gone. The shops were closed for the weekend, too. For a price that really isn't competitive, guests are left to sort this out themselves without being told in advance. I've traveled around the world staying in apartments for 30 years and never had this happen. What a shame.

Mrs. Marion was so kind and gave us useful advice for getting around the area. The apartment was comfortable and well looked after, right in central Sesto, with supermarkets, a bakery, bars, restaurants, and a dairy packed with all sorts of good things nearby. The Rio Sesto runs right in front, alongside a cycle path through the woods to S. Candido. It's a beautiful route for a relaxed walk and a chance to enjoy the scenery. The one downside was the small bathroom, which didn't have a standard bidet, just a portable plastic one that we didn't use. We found a workaround, though. I'd happily choose this place again if I return.
