We came to this fabulous town looking for somewhere to spend the night after reading about a Soviet-themed hotel where you could experience life as a dissident in the USSR in the 1980s. It turned out to be more convincing than we could have imagined. Spartan, echoing accommodation and minimalist washing facilities recreated a re-education camp perfectly. At exactly 6 a.m., a forklift from the vegetable shop and a petrol blower from the local municipal cleaning crew made sure any Western ideas about rest and relaxation didn’t last long. The camp commandant was notably absent for much of the experience, and we felt it was massively overpriced, even for such an authentic stay. In short, your experiential tourism tokens may be better spent elsewhere.

For a simple hotel in a great spot, this was good value. It’s within walking distance of the station and beaches, with a convenience store and bakery right next door. The receptionist was friendly and straightforward, the rooms were clean, and we slept well in the beds. There was a balcony with a small table and a couple of chairs, plus another chair inside by the mirror. The room also had a closet and a tiny WC with a shower and bidet. Air conditioning ran at night. Just don’t expect a four or five star experience; it’s an accessible retreat.

The place was very clean, and the staff were friendly and efficient. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the heart of town and around 8 minutes to the train station. The area was extremely noisy, even from 6 a.m., mostly because of traffic and a market on the ground floor. Light sleepers should be aware.

Great town-centre location, about a 10-minute walk to everything. The room was very basic, but the bed was comfy. Staff were nice, and they cleaned the room daily.
