Porta Camollia is a beautiful gate into the northern part of Siena’s walled inner city. It gets pretty busy, and there’s a large area in front where I can imagine centenary can take place. On one side there’s a market building and a park, where you can look east over the city from outside the wall.

The huge city gate is one of Siena's most important entrances. There's a lot of traffic crossing through here, so take care when getting across. It's also really close to bus stops, a mini mall, the university, and more.

The park beside the market building gives you a nice view over Siena, and the gate itself has a history tied to the legend of the city's founding. There have been many historic events around here, and the construction stands as a reminder of them. It's a beautiful entrance and a must-visit when you're in Siena. If you're driving, leave the car in public parking, since you can't bring it through.

I stumbled on this impressive bit of architecture during a day trip to Siena, and it's well worth seeing. Just watch where you walk: the central arch is a road, not a footpath, and cars can come through fast. Pedestrians should use the arches at the sides.
