Astrea

I've stayed at Appartamento Astrea twice now, because it suits my needs perfectly and is close to my Italian language academy. The host also made check-in and check-out easier. A really positive experience!

The owner was easygoing and came by each morning to make breakfast, which was included. We had cappuccino and sweet treats. Astrea worked well for us, with a roomy bedroom and a kitchen where we cooked some nice evening meals. The free Wi-Fi worked fine, and there was a TV and air conditioning too. The location was good, just a short walk from Ortigia.

The worst place I've stayed, anywhere. They didn't wait for us to arrive and wouldn't answer the phone, so we ended up having to sleep in the car. The next day they expected to collect the price through Booking. Seriously, the worst experience I've had in all the places I've been.

The host was kind and helpful, and the location is fantastic. The room's air conditioning also worked well, which mattered because it otherwise felt like a sauna. But the value for money wasn't good, especially with no breakfast offered or available. I was disappointed because an online search showed a kitchen and private bathroom. There was no kitchen, only a shared fridge that needed cleaning. The bathroom was private, but you had to walk down the corridor to reach it. The living area had only a fridge, no other amenities, disposable cups, napkins, or coffee maker. The apartment is on the third floor with no elevator, and that wasn't clearly mentioned. It would have been a big problem for someone with a disability. The spacious room had chipped ceiling paint and an uncomfortable bed. The bathroom was in terrible shape, with rusty furniture and a yellow shower door. There were no hangers or cabinets, which made things inconvenient for a family of four. No shower mat was provided, only towels and a hairdryer. The apartment has potential, but needs work. I would come back, just not in these conditions.
