Breakfast was delicious, with all the food being great. The bathrooms were clean and good, and the air conditioning worked brilliantly. The rooms themselves felt dated, though. It’s a very basic hotel just outside ortigia. Reception staff were reasonable, but didn’t make much effort to go out of their way.

Location is the one thing this place still has going for it. Maybe it was grand years ago, but that clearly isn’t the case now. My room was a decent size, and there were signs of renovation work, but the bathroom was filthy. The floor and sink were grimy, there was mold all over the shower, and a dead bug was stuck to the ceiling. I was also left with a used, empty shower gel bottle and a used toiletry kit. Absolutely unacceptable.

The staff were kind and helpful, and moved us to a comparable room on the quieter side. Our booked sea-view room faced a main street too, so it was much too noisy. I realize a move like that may only be possible in the off season. They also gave us good suggestions for places to eat. Eggs at the breakfast buffet were a nice extra after days of only croissants 😅.

The room was big and spacious, and there’s plenty of free parking nearby. Breakfast had a nice range, and the pistachio cream was delicious. We loved our two-night stay, though the second night was a bit spoiled when the AC was off. Staff are at the desk around the clock, but told us it stays off until May even though it had been running the night before. The keys are heavy, but you can leave them at reception. Lots of mosquitoes!
