La Taverna

The owners clearly take pride in both the farm and the holiday business. We enjoyed chatting with them and the other guests over the optional breakfast, which was tasty and inexpensive. The property sits on the edge of Floridia, a pleasant-looking town with a good number of restaurants, and makes a handy base for Siracusa, as well as hikes at Pantalica and Cavagrande del Cassible. There are about six rooms among the family's lemon, olive, and almond trees. We had the king room, with a decent kitchenette and dining table, while our daughters stayed in a twin room. Both were roomy, spotlessly clean, simply furnished, and had air conditioning. There was also a round pool big enough to splash around and cool off in, plus a large patio and garden with deckchairs. We'd happily come back.

Mrs Adorno and her sons made us feel so welcome. Their hospitality was everything we could have wanted. The countryside setting is beautiful, yet Floridia is about a minute away and Siracuse around 15 minutes. We found it a great place to stay while exploring the island's east coast, its lovely sea, and its baroque towns.

Signora Maria and her son Ettore made our days there wonderful. They were pleasant company without ever being intrusive, and breakfast was hearty, with nearly everything made from produce grown on the estate. The property is a peaceful, comfortable place with a pool and whirlpool made from an old watering hole. Signora Maria looks after this noble estate, once her grandfather's, and its 18 hectares of fruit and olive groves. It's also well placed for Syracuse, Avola, Palazzolo Acreide, and Noto. I recommend it to anyone wanting to get to know the area's culture, beauty, and authentic feel. Thanks to Ettore and the legendary Signora Maria!
