Maison Ortigia

We chose a room with a balcony and a view, and it didn’t disappoint. The B&B is on a lovely square with a church, easy to reach and handy for sights and restaurants. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. Breakfast was a highlight, especially thanks to the waitress, whose name we sadly forgot. She was friendly, helpful, and welcoming, and made the visit more memorable. The rooms were fine. Tea and coffee facilities in the room or shared areas would have been nice, but it was no problem to pop out for a coffee. Definitely recommend.

The rooms were dirty and smelled bad, and we were counting the days until we could leave. The bathroom had rust everywhere, and both the doors and beds squeaked. My child couldn’t sleep properly because the bed made noise whenever they turned over. Breakfast was barely worth calling breakfast. Don’t be tempted by the price, choose somewhere better. Also, check before booking: the beautiful rooms shown in the pictures are only for double occupancy, not families.

Maison Ortigia met all our expectations, and I’d recommend it to anyone after a well located stay at a reasonable price. It’s right in the heart of Ortigia, about 100 meters from the sea and close to the theatre building. The beach is around 200 meters away, the fortress is nearby, and the hotel is near Duomo square while still being in a fairly quiet area. It’s a great base for exploring the island, the main sights, and the old town. There are lots of restaurants and cafes with Sicilian food for every taste. The staff were pleasant and friendly. We asked for an electric kettle and one was brought to our room. Rooms were clean, and breakfast was delicious, with fresh cappuccino or espresso. Lia, the always smiling and lovely waitress, really created that Italian breakfast atmosphere. Excellent value for money. My rating: 10/10.

Avoid this place. The standards are very cheap, despite what you might think from the positive reviews. The bathrooms smell and are covered in fungus, and the doors to the rooms feel like ordinary interior doors, so you can hear everything. I do not recommend it.
