Mercure Siracusa Prometeo Hotel

I spent a week here and really liked how warmly and kindly we were welcomed. The rooms were clean and cozy, and breakfast was generous and just right. I also tried the spa and pool, which made for an amazing experience. I’ll be back.

The staff made us feel very welcome and were a big help throughout our stay. My wife and I were here for four days of sightseeing in Syracuse, and we found the room spacious, comfortable, and well equipped.

The Greek Theatre and amphitheater are only a seven-minute walk away, and Ortigia is under ten minutes by car, so the location worked really well for us. We had a happy week here as a family of three. It was quiet and comfortable, suitable for a family trip or a business stay. The rooms are modern enough and cozy, and the buffet breakfast was complete and satisfying. We enjoyed drinks at the terrace bar beside the good-sized rooftop pool. Guest parking is free. The hotel lot is small, but there are other free spaces right beside it, and we parked there all week without trouble. We’d definitely recommend staying here.

I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels as an Accor Platinum member, and the front-facing rooms here were the worst I’ve experienced. Street noise was unbearable. I honestly wonder whether the General Manager has ever spent a night here, because the soundproofing needs serious improvement. We were fortunately moved after the first night, but that was my worst night in an Accor hotel. The shower had almost no pressure, and the bathroom supplied only an all-in-one soap. I’d expect that at an Ibis, but at a Mercure I expect separate shampoo, conditioner, and so on. The pool is small, and even after paying hundreds of euros, you have to pay extra for a pool towel. Public transport wasn’t working well, with buses late or not showing up, so don’t trust Google maps. The hotel feels too far from the city center as a result. On the plus side, it’s close to the modern church, and I can recommend Nabu – Bistrot, Pizzeria & Veg Food nearby. I give our stay 2/5 and wouldn’t come back anytime soon.
