Hotel Blue Silver

My mother has dementia and spent three weeks there this August. She was looked after very well with her medication and personal hygiene, and the staff were attentive, patient, and kind. She was happy, and enjoyed the food, entertainment, and company of the staff. The garden is lovely and there’s a nice pool, though the hotel itself feels a bit dated and could use some updating. I knew before booking that it’s about 700 meters from the lake. That’s a difficult distance for an older person, even someone self-sufficient like my mother, because after walking around by the lake, she had to cover the same distance back. In summer, 1 or 2 km can be hard at a certain age. It’s also a residential area with nothing else nearby. Even with that drawback, I think it’s a good compromise for seniors who don’t yet need a nursing home.

The single-room price is too high for what this place offers. The furnishings are rather dated and small, both in the bedrooms and especially in the combined dining and living room, and the beds still have box springs. Outside, there’s very little usable space, surrounded by houses, roads, and concrete in a mostly residential setting. I wouldn’t recommend it for a senior who is still self-sufficient, can get around at least somewhat, and has a clear mind. The interior also feels uninspiring for people who still have interests and want to exercise.

My 95-year-old mother had such a good stay that she says she’d love to return. She felt cared for and pampered, and I was reassured by how kind and available everyone was. It was my first time dealing with a place like this, so I was nervous, but the welcome put me at ease. Her room was beautiful, bright, and spacious, and the whole hotel was clean and well maintained. For senior living, the care and hospitality are what matter most to me, and they were top-notch. Bring your loved ones with peace of mind. Thanks again for everything you’ve done.

We chose this “3-star hotel” because it advertised 24-hour care for elderly people. My mother is 92 and self-sufficient apart from needing help in the shower, which I made clear when we arrived. In ten days she managed to shower only twice because staff were never available to assist her. My aunt is 93. The building has two floors and no elevator. It’s far from the center of Sirmione, with no grocery shop or any other kind of store nearby. On arrival, a servant carried our bags to rooms that were clean and welcoming. At reception, I was immediately asked to pay the balance for the full 14-day stay IN ADVANCE. After my mother’s bags were unpacked, I asked for an extra pillow and was told there were none. Later, when she asked for a face towel, they also said they were out. The next day they gave her a bidet towel to dry her face. Before leaving my mother and aunt, I said I wanted to have lunch with them. I wish I hadn’t. The food was shamefully poor and the portions meager. We left half of what little we were served, even though we’re not picky eaters. One day my mother felt unwell and asked for plain pasta, pasta in bianco, for lunch and dinner. At dinner she got overcooked pasta left over from lunch. By the weekend, nearly all the management and staff had gone, leaving a foreign worker responsible for all the elderly people. They were being sworn not to harm anyone, because clearly they’d be in trouble if there weren’t enough staff to intervene. The place was a total disappointment: sad, expensive, unwelcoming, unreliable with the people entrusted to it, and it didn’t deliver the promised services. My mother left Hotel Blue Silver five days early, after only 9 of the 14 days, because she felt uncomfortable, neglected, and disgusted by the food. I can’t understand the glowing, satisfied reviews I’d read before booking, which misled me. Maybe our experience was an unfortunate incident, but it shows that things can happen. I sincerely hope Management takes these criticisms seriously and acts to improve its services.
