Hotel Mon Repos

The breakfast was excellent, with a wide range of choices, and there’s a massive pool with a bar. The Roman Villa ruins are just a short walk away, and the hotel has great views close to the centre. Getting to the car park involves a fun, fairground-style ride, but watch out for being locked in on a Sunday. This was much better than your average 3 star hotel. Really couldn’t fault it 🙏🙏

The food was a pleasant surprise at breakfast. Although I expected a continental spread, there were cakes, cheeses, meats, scrambled eggs, bacon, and more. Dinner requires a reservation because the dining area is small and intimate, and we ate very well. The pool is set above the road with some privacy, rarely seemed busy, and has a little bar for snacks, lunch, and drinks. Service is very personal. Many staff speak little English, which was part of the experience, while the owner speaks a few languages and was very helpful and communicative before and during our stay. She arranged taxis, shared useful local advice, and I loved chatting with her. Our standard room was small and a little worn, with a few bumps, but nothing that affected the trip. This little hotel exceeded my expectations for a 3 star stay, and I highly recommend it.

The location is near the centre and beach, but getting there can be difficult, and the road seems to close on busy days. The rooms and breakfast were pretty basic. What really bothered us was the cleaners starting outside our door at 7.30am, talking loudly and using equipment. The thin walls and poor acoustics made it worse. Surely guests should be able to get a good night's rest? They could move checkout to 11am instead of midday if they need more cleaning time, especially since there aren’t that many rooms. If I came back to Sirmione, I’d stay somewhere on the 'main land' and walk in.

We loved the place so much that we cancelled our next reservation and added an extra night. The grounds were lovely to stroll around, and breakfast had everything you could want. Julia was so accommodating and was even waiting out front to greet us. We loved our stay and you won’t be disappointed.
