Villa Onofria

The biggest problem was the condition of the apartment. It was infested with cockroaches and ants, and water in the sink was oily and drained poorly. It didn’t seem like normal city water. They gave us a liquid for the drain, which made it seem as if they already knew about the problem. The photos on the website and booking platform were very different from what we found. The villa felt neglected, with leaves everywhere and an unclean pool, although the location itself was beautiful. It’s on a campsite. The cooling system was unusual too, connected to the windows, which had to stay shut for it to work. When we opened them, the system stopped and humidity formed on the floor. Neither the owner nor anyone else was consistently available on-site. One woman checked in occasionally. When we told her about the insects, she handed us spray and offered to clean the floor with detergent. We declined because we had a little baby and a very old dog. She also dismissed our concerns, saying she wouldn’t believe us even if we showed her photos of the cockroaches. We were told to put our rubbish in a downstairs garage, where the trash truck was extremely dirty and there was far too much garbage. The whole stay left us extremely uncomfortable and disappointed.

The lake view from the balcony was good, but that was all I liked about the location. The listing said there was air conditioning, but there wasn’t. There was only a kind of climate system that didn’t work. The managing agency, which wasn’t a private owner, said it would keep the place 4°C cooler than outside. Instead, it was consistently 26.5-27°C inside when it was 27°C outdoors. They sent a technician into the property while we were out, even though we’d been told any adjustment would be made from outside the apartment. Nothing improved. I later read earlier opinions about the property’s management, and they sounded much like what I experienced. They offered a voucher for a future stay, but I don’t plan to return somewhere without air conditioning.

Two of the rooms have a balcony plus a separate private rooftop veranda, with amazing views and plenty of space for sunbathing. The villa is well equipped and fantastically well kept, and they even greeted us with a bottle of fizz. The kitchenette had everything we needed for a short stay. It’s a quiet spot just outside the busy part of town, particularly suited to couples. Local shops and restaurants are a short walk away, as is a bike rental store about two minutes away. Cycling is popular here and well provided for. We had a great stay, highly recommend it, and would love to come back.

We stayed here on the first night of our honeymoon, and the building and view were beautiful. But Rosa’s attitude was awful. The air conditioner in our apartment didn’t work, and at night it was 35 degrees in the room. I told her straight away, but she wouldn’t even bring us a fan, so we didn’t sleep a minute. In the morning she promised to refund the money. This was in June. I’d never choose this place again. Dear Rosa, shame on you!
