We had a lovely time in this spotless, idyllic house. The lake is only 30 seconds away, and we made good use of the rowboat. There’s also a great pizzeria just a two-minute walk away. We’d happily return.

We left La Basotta in the middle of the night because we weren’t willing to risk exposing ourselves or our children to the spraying, and there wasn’t time to check the operation with the municipality. Neighbors had warned us to keep every window shut and said sleeping in a tent wasn’t advisable. LABREVA hadn’t told us about it in advance. They showed little understanding when we raised our concerns and cynically said we should have checked for ourselves. We believe landlords should tell tenants about health risks, and LABREVA clearly doesn’t share that view, so future guests can decide for themselves whether they’re comfortable with this exposure. The house is in former marshland, where the municipality regularly carries out large-scale nighttime spraying against mosquitoes and malaria using the biological product Biolarkim 14, according to LABREVA. It’s said to be harmless to people, but the advice is not to inhale it for the first 2-3 hours after spraying. We found LABREVA’s behavior unacceptable.

Guests of LA BREVA have strongly recommended this place as a base for exploring around Lake Como. Its location also works well for swimming, surfing, and canoeing.
