The lack of privacy was awful. I booked a private bathroom, but it wasn't private in practice: people came in or knocked while I was showering. There were no locks, so anyone could enter my room while I was out. The owner seemed to be in the house all day, every day, walking around constantly, and I felt like an uneasy guest rather than someone paying hotel-level prices for basic privacy. Once, the host went into my room without warning, took my belongings, and moved them to another bedroom. I felt violated, and afterward a pair of panties had gone missing. I paid for the cheapest room, but that didn't give the owner the right to do that. At the very least, I should have been warned so I could pack the intimate clothes I had left drying. There was only a sofa bed and very little else. The rooms were bad: no bins, barely any towels, a strange musty smell, cold facilities, ineffective heating, no fridge for food, and not even a basic kettle for a drink. I ended up spending a lot eating out every day. The owner gave me a strange impression. His kindness often seemed fake, and he'd suddenly get angry or upset. He was rude. Seeing how he treated other guests, his aggressive replies to negative reviews, and how he acted with close friends made me wonder if I was the only one. I had a bad gut feeling whenever I had to deal with him, which is unusual for me because I'm naive and tend to trust anyone who's nice to me. I travel around Europe a lot, and I've never paid so much to feel like a prisoner in my own room. This experience convinced me I'll never use Airbnb again.
