Imperial Hotel Tramontano

The restaurant staff were attentive and helpful throughout our stay, and we enjoyed the meals there. Our Junior Suite was huge, with absolutely amazing views, and the beds were comfortable enough that we slept well. The rest of the room was decently appointed, but the couch was worn and sagged in the middle. The bathroom was very dated, with a tiny shower door that wouldn’t close properly. There was no tea, coffee, or bottled water in the room, which I’d expect at this price. At check-in we got almost no information about the property or where things were. They still use manual door keys, and having only one caused problems at times. It didn’t live up to what it cost.

The central location, beautiful views, and impressive exterior give the hotel a classic, elegant feel, and the main sights in Sorrento are an easy walk away. But the rooms are basic for what you pay. Little extras add up: €10 for a glass of fresh orange juice, eggs cost extra, parking is €25 a day, and even bottled water isn’t included. It’s fine for the location and appearance, but doesn’t deliver the comfort or value I’d expect at this price.

The view is beautiful, but this place isn’t for light sleepers. The walls might as well be paper, and construction noise started around 7 in the morning. Maybe just stop by the bar for a drink and enjoy the view.

The hotel sits right in the city and has an amazing view, but the welcome was cold. Check-in was brief and impersonal. The staff seemed eager to go back to their computer, offered no advice about the city, and each time we entered the lobby we got stares instead of a warm greeting. The breakfast and bar teams were welcoming, and their service was good, though breakfast items available at all three-star hotels in Italy came with an extra charge here. Our room was cramped, and the thin walls let us hear every movement from the rooms beside us and especially above us. The shower was so small I couldn’t shampoo my hair, and I’m a small woman. The building’s age might make those issues understandable, but the lack of amenities and service made the stay disappointing: no water at check-in or in the room, no bell service, and the in-room iron was tethered to the board so tightly it was impossible to use. I’d hoped for more from such a prominent hotel in Sorrento.
