Palazzo Gargiulo

During our honeymoon we stayed at three hotels, and this was both the most expensive and the biggest letdown. We paid for what was presented as a luxury stay, but the room was basic and, apart from the location, little about it felt luxurious. The staff were unfriendly and we didn't feel welcome. At that price, we expected to be looked after, but that wasn't our experience.

The property is charming, clean, and beautifully kept, but Raffaella's care is what really made our stay at Palazzo Gargiulo special. She welcomed us warmly, paid attention to every detail, and made us feel completely at ease. When the airline lost our luggage, she personally helped us retrieve it, far beyond what we'd expect from a hotel manager. Her professionalism and kindness made our time in Sorrento stress-free and unforgettable. We highly recommend Palazzo Gargiulo to anyone visiting. If you meet Raffaella, you'll see Italian hospitality at its best.

We were right in the middle of Sorrento's cafés, shops, restaurants, and other town attractions, which was exactly what we wanted. The Palazzo Gargiulo sits in the old city, reached through a beautiful courtyard off a medieval street, and felt like a great value for the quality. Our room was clean and well-appointed, as were the hotel's other spaces. There was no view, just two high windows, but that suited us since we wanted to be out exploring. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the café they use for breakfast was a charming place to sit or fuel up before heading out. Excellent stay, and we'll definitely return.

We spent six nights here on our honeymoon, and the experience was very poor. From the first night, an intermittent beeping outside our room kept waking us throughout the stay. We aren't usually complainers, but after three nights of broken sleep, we reported it to the manager/reception as soon as reception opened. She asked for a video, which we tried to record that evening. It was hard to catch because each beep lasted under 20 seconds, and we didn't want to spend our vacation sitting in the room waiting to document it. When we showed the footage the next day, there was no apology or apparent concern. I believe they may have known about the problem and avoided apologizing because they thought it could admit fault. At checkout, we asked whether anything could be done to acknowledge it. The manager responded defensively, demanded more "evidence," and suggested we were making it up because we hadn't complained earlier. That was incredibly upsetting. Why would we invent this, especially on our honeymoon? We shared the short videos we had managed to get at her request, but our complaint was still downplayed, with the response implying some grand beeping conspiracy. We don't usually leave negative reviews, but felt we had to share this. We wouldn't recommend the hotel and suggest future guests look elsewhere.
