Eremo Delle Grazie

We held our wedding and our son's baptism here, and the place felt straight out of a fairytale. You can sense the atmosphere of another time, when everything around us was made by hand with great care. The location is wonderful and the food was amazing. What more could you ask for?

The rooms are decorated to match the setting, with lots of frescoes, and the history gives the place a real sense of stepping back in time. The view over Spoleto is breathtaking, and the pool is always very clean. The road up to the hermitage is narrow and unpaved. The place is beautiful, though it could perhaps use a little more attention.

The restaurant and accommodation have breathtaking views, and this former residence of popes and poets has a pool and Wi-Fi. The rooms are clean, service is impeccable, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Air conditioning is available and works. There’s no TV, as you’d expect in a proper hermitage, and the quiet encourages meditation. The period furnishings suit the place, though the rooms are small. The bathroom is cramped, and its furnishings sag, so that could be improved. For the last 1,000 meters, don’t rely on GPS. Follow the yellow signs or you may not reach the destination.

The cuisine is good, and the care taken in choosing high-quality ingredients comes through. The peaceful atmosphere suits the setting, while the view and panorama make up for some shortcomings. It’s a period residence through and through, though a refresh and a little tidying up here and there would help.
