Dinner was pretty MEH, probably because the company that booked our tour asked for the cheapest menu possible. It felt like the kind of food you'd get in the state free hospital. Breakfast, on the other hand, was decent and had lots to choose from, including bread, toast, croissants, fruit, Nutella, honey, cheese, salami, ham, and hot and cold drinks. The rooms were clean and cosy, with a fine window view. I was there with a tourist group and found the hotel okay. It's near the lake and in the city center.

The Moderno makes a good base for seeing Stresa and Lake Maggiore, both well worth a visit. It was good value for the price, though the hotel is aging and a bit dated. There are several buildings, and rooms vary, so I'd ask about them before choosing. We prefer firm mattresses, and ours was the firmest ever!

I wouldn't recommend the hotel's affiliated restaurant at all. The dish I ordered wasn't described accurately, and the misunderstanding was bad enough that I sent it straight back and ordered something else. They said that was fine, then charged me for it anyway. They should describe the food properly to avoid upsetting and confusing customers. It feels like a tourist trap.

The location was good, and the rooms were clean and nice. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I expected an Italian hotel to serve Italian food, though, and for the most part they didn't.

Central location is good. The food was horrible, the chefs clearly need retraining. Most of the waiters were friendly, but some were uptight.
