Nerone's B&B Sutri

The apartment is beside an old church, with countryside views, and Vittorio has renovated it beautifully. I loved his interior design so much that I'm going to borrow ideas for my own place when I get home. He also looked after me well, sharing a tip for the best pizza in town, right next door, and helping with my laundry. Much appreciated!

I arrived to find that, despite the listing advertising kitchen and washer/dryer access, neither was available. The bathroom was separate from the room, and a dog in the adjacent room barked whenever I moved. Before that, the first warning sign had been a request to prepay through PayPal as family or friends, which would have stopped me disputing the charge later. The main problem came as I was leaving. I accidentally engaged a second lock on the building door. It had been held down with faded, worn tape, and once it locked me out, the owner seemed to think I should have known how it worked. He also said Italian B&B rules don't allow kitchen access, despite advertising kitchen access. The key for this lock wasn't kept at the property. I waited more than three hours for him to come and unlock the door, but he never showed, so I gave up and found somewhere else to stay. Luckily, I had my belongings with me. The conversations felt bullying and highly unprofessional. He then asked me to send €30 for supposed lock damage without an invoice, or following Booking.com's damage policy, which requires charges to go through Booking.com instead of being paid directly to the property. If entry requires two keys, guests should be given both, or at least the spare should be kept on site. Stay far away. There are much nicer places in Sutri that won't leave you out in the cold. Also, read the owner's replies to negative reviews. They show the bullying and lack of professionalism you may face if you stay here.

Worst place to stay. Think twice before booking, guys!
